Rockford man charged after man dies of drug overdose

ROCKFORD (WREX) —  Rockford Police are searching for a man they say dealt the drugs that led to a man’s overdose death.

Winnebago County authorities announced charges against Mitchell Wimbush on Friday.

They say he’s responsible for the May 5, 2017 overdose death of Phillip John Charles Anderson-Hamilton Jr.

On that day, Rockford Police officers were called to a home in the 1400 block of 12th Avenue for a possible overdose. There, they found Anderson-Hamilton Jr. dead.

During a follow-up investigation, Wimbush was named as a suspect and has since been charged with drug induced homicide.

A $1 million arrest warrant has been issued. Anyone with information on Wimbush’s whereabouts are asked to call Rockford Police at 779-500-6551 or Crime Stoppers at 815-963-7867.
