ROCKFORD (WREX) — It’s unseasonably cold in the Stateline and the Rescue Mission says they need help from the community.
The mission says they sheltered 184 people Wednesday night, many of which are not prepared for the cold weather with coats and other necessities. However, the mission says they’re prepared to provide for an average of 155 people each night.
If temperatures continue to drop, the mission says they can be feeding as many as 200 people in need.
“These forecasts can be unbearable for those living on the streets,” said Executive Director, Sherry Pitney. “This early in the year, many coat drives are just beginning and we have dozens of men, women and children without proper winter attire. The Mission is in need of larger size coats for our men and women as well as coats for the children.”
The mission is urgently calls on the community to help the Mission care for the homeless throughout the winter months through a number of different ways.
Gifts of clothing, food and supplies can be delivered to 715 West State Street, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monetary donations can be made online at rockfordrescuemission.org. Additional information about Mission activities and year-round programs and services are available online as well.
