NIU Huskies take a taste of a new and improved student center dining location

DEKALB (WREX) — A longtime Huskie staple is finally making its return to campus.

Northern Illinois University’s Huskie Den dining location, inside the newly renovated Holmes Student Center, held its soft opening Thursday afternoon.

The Huskie Den has been a staple on the NIU campus since 1967, but due to renovations to the campus’s student center the location has been closed since May of last year.

When the venue is officially complete early next year, it will have a restaurant-bar, performance stage and 16-lane bowling alley.

Student’s had the opportunity to take a sample of the venue’s fresh menu this afternoon, but campus faculty and staff hope the newly renovated den will help students feel even more at home when on campus.

“I think it’ll be a great dining venue, it has a great atmosphere, we have TVs, we’ll have music playing, we’ll have a lot of activities and events for students to do,” says Jennifer Manning, NIU Holmes Student Center Executive Director. “Different things that will hopefully appeal to a wide variety of students.”

The Huskie Den dining location will officially open on Monday, November 11.
