Local Teams Advance at Volleyball Sectionals

The high school girls volleyball postseason is into the sectional round, with a heavy local presence in the playoffs.

One team from each of the NIC-10, Big Northern, and NUIC advanced to their respective sectional championships.

Class 1-A

Dakota 2, Fulton 1 – The Lady Indians coasted to an early 15-2 lead and won the first set, 25-12. The Lady Steamers answered with a 27-25 second set before Dakota took care of business in the third, 25-19. The Lady Indians will face Galena in the Pecatonica sectional championship match on Wednesday after the Lady Pirates defeated Sterling Newman.

Class 2-A

Lutheran 2, Rock Falls 1 – The Lady Crusaders avenged their only conference loss of the season, defeating the Lady Rockets in a three set thriller that saw Lutheran win the last two in decisive fashion. Lauren Spangler piled up 17 kills for the Lady Crusaders, who will face Montini in the Genoa-Kingston sectional championship match on Wednesday.

Class 3-A

Belvidere North 2, Kaneland 0 – The Lady Blue Thunder have not skipped a beat since going unbeaten in NIC-10 play during the regular season, earning a straight sets victory in the Crystal Lake South sectional semifinals. Next up for Belvidere North: Crystal Lake Central in Wednesday’s sectional final.

Class 4-A

Huntley 2, Hononegah 1 – The Lady Indians dropped a 25-14 first set, but stormed back to force a third and decisive game, winning 25-20 in the middle frame. Huntley went on to win the match in the final set, 25-16, ending Hononegah’s season at the Dundee-Crown sectional.
