ROCKFORD (WREX) — Keith Country Day senior runner Tristan Olpin is our WREX Athlete of the Week.
Olpin won a Regional championship last week, and will go after a Sectional title this weekend in cross country. For Olpin, running is about more than winning medals.
“It’s meditative for me,” Olpin said. “By the end of it, I’m feeling a lot better than I did at the start. Even if I’ve had a bad day and I’m not quite in the mood to go out and run, if I go out and do it I’ll feel better. I’ll have a more optimistic look at the day and it’s a nicer feeling.”
That insight is not surprising as Olpin hopes to study psychology and become a therapist one day.
“[I want] to see people feel better and start to achieve their best,” Olpin said.
He’ll look to achieve his best as he takes aim at a Sectional title this weekend, and then one more run at the state cross country meet.
