ROCKFORD – The second to last Saturday of October provided ideal weather conditions for the 2019 NIC-10 cross country championship races.

The girls raced first, with Belvidere North claiming three of the top four individual finishers – Gianna Sagona finished in 1st, Madison Diercks in 2nd, and Sydnie Elder in 4th to lead the Lady Blue Thunder to the team championship. East’s Mcihelle Gasmund finished in third place. The fifth, sixth, and seventh place spots all went to Hononegah: Hailey Henry, Lauren Johnston, and Indigo Sterud, respectively.

The boys race completed a Belvidere North team sweep, with Max Beutel’s first place finish pacing the Blue Thunder. The Auburn pair of Jonah Garcia and Peter Maculan took second and third, respectively. Hononegah’s Nate Halbrader and Dominick Welte rounded out the top five.

All three classes of cross country will run regionals next Saturday.
