Girls Tennis Players Qualify for State at Sectionals

ROCKFORD – Auburn and Boylan played host to the girls tennis sectionals on Saturday as a talented local field secured their spots at next week’s state tournament.

Auburn junior Belen Nevenhoven put together a perfect run through the 2-A sectional – she won all four of her matches, 6-0, 6-0. She will go to state for the third straight year.

Second through fourth place finishers in singles at Auburn featured Guilford’s Kasey Aucutt, Auburn’s Phuong Pham, and Guilford’s Cristina Gelabert.

Auburn’s duo of Paris Thompson and Amy Park defeated their teammates Madeline Harned and Alyssa Trapp to win the sectional doubles title. Hononegah’s doubles pairs of Elizabeth Schindler & Mya Carter, and Claire Larsen & Sydney Webb finished third and fourth.

Boylan hosted the 1-A sectionals, with the Lady Titans doubles team of Natalie Muldowney & MiaBella Provenzano, both seniors, won the doubles sectional to qualify for state. The other top four doubles teams were Sterling’s Abby Aitken & Saryn Seeley, Sycamore’s Alyssa Cooley & Abigail Krull, and Newman’s Sydney Schott & Madelyn Ryan.

Dixon’s Riley Bally and Keith’s Riya Karne were third and fourth, respectively, in 1-A sectional singles at Boylan.
