Cronies Grill decides to close its doors after fatal shooting on October 6

MACHESNEY PARK (WREX)- A bar and grill that has been operating in Machesney Park for 13 years decides to close its doors.

Cronies Grill posted on its Facebook page that the Village of Machesney Park was prepared to allow the restaurant to continue its operation, but it has decided to close.

“Being the face of Cronies Grill, I will always remember and keep close to my heart so many wonderful people who have come through the doors of this great building to become my lifetime Cronies,” Owner Tim Bent Sr. posted on Facebook.

On October 6, a birthday celebration was happening at Cronies when a fight started. Deputies say 31-year-old Russell Jefferson was shot and killed and another person was also shot. 28-year-old Kenneth J. Johnson was charged in the shooting.

In that same Facebook post, Bent Sr. did not directly say the shooting was the reason for the closure.

“This has not been an easy decision to make, but I would like to sincerely thank all of our great customers for their support,” he said. “And, the people and leaders of Machesney Park for creating an environment that has been a great place to do business.”
