ROCKFORD (WREX) – A local lawmaker got to take on a different role on Wednesday.
Illinois State Rep. Maurice West (D – 67th District) served as, “Principal for a Day,” at Constance Lane Elementary School. Rep. West got to work with students, teachers and employees at the school. The, “Principal for a Day,” initiative, which is organized in part by the Illinois Principals Association, aims to provide opportunities for principals and other administrators to build and improve relationships with their local lawmakers.
“I want the teachers and administration to know that however I could be of help on the state side, I’m here for them,” said Rep. West. “But I also wanted the students to see someone who grew up in the Rockford public school system who’s now a state representative and tell them that they can do the same thing.”
Constance Lane Elementary School is currently operating in its first year.
