New Jersey man charged with having sex with Freeport teenager

FREEPORT (WREX) — A New Jersey man was taken into custody over the weekend for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old girl in Freeport.

Rahmeir Reeves, 25, of New Jersey, was charged with criminal sexual abuse.

Freeport Police say around 1:15 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, an officer located a suspicious vehicle with Michigan license plates parked in the area of Fairway Dr. and Sumac Dr., a remote area southwest of Freeport.

Police say Reeves was found in the backseat of the vehicle with a 16-year-old girl from Freeport.

Reeves and the girl met online and Reeves traveled from his New Jersey home to meet with the girl, according to police.

Police say Reeves and the girl had sex. Reeves was then charged with a single count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Reeves posted bond and was released from custody.

Police say the Stephenson County States Attorney Office is reviewing the case to determine if additional charges will be added.

The investigation is ongoing.
