IL Lawmakers could cap price of insulin

SPRINGFIELD (WREX) — The cost of insulin can be more than some diabetics can afford, and lawmakers say they want to change that.

A proposed bill would cap the price of insulin to $100 for a 30 day supply. A local nurse practitioner’s office says if approved, that could have a huge impact on our area.

“For a Type 1 diabetic, or a person with diabetes, insulin is life and death. They don’t make insulin, they have to have it. So people end up rationing their medication, their insulin, because they can’t afford it,” said Tracy Palmer with SwedishAmerican.

The bill was originally filed in May and will be reintroduced during the veto session, which starts later this month.
