SwedishAmerican hosts beam raising ceremony for new Women and Children’s Tower

ROCKFORD (WREX) — Tuesday marked another milestone for SwedishAmerican’s new Women’s and Children’s Tower.

The hospital held a beam-raising ceremony at the main hospital campus to celebrate the final beam placement on the $60 million facility. Employees had a chance to sign the beam before it was raised.

“Today marks an important milestone for the construction of the Women and Children’s Tower,” Dr. Born said. “It signifies the completion of the framework for the structure and allows us to celebrate the progress that is being made. We are very excited to continue to watch the creation of what will be a tremendous facility for our patients and staff.”

The four-story Women and Children’s Tower at 1401 E. State Street will be 110,000 square feet and house pediatric specialty clinics, Labor and Delivery and SwedishAmerican’s Level III NICU. The center will also feature an auditorium and a roof-top garden.

The new facility is set to open in Spring of 2021.
