ROCKFORD (WREX) — Miss Carly’s is known for helping those in the community get the resources they may need. Hundreds of people returned the favor on Sunday by helping raise money for the organization so it can keep doing its mission.

“We don’t want people to slip in the cracks and be caught in the catch-22s and just give up. We want to help get those people out of those situations.” said Miss Carly’s Place Founder Carly Rice.

For years, Rice has helped those struggling get back on their feet. Now, people in her community are helping her continue to her work.

“It’s just been such a success. I am blown away,” said Rice.
Miss Carly’s hosted its first ever fundraiser, a place where hundreds can help those who support and serve the Rockford community.

“They’re all these incidental costs that really affect peoples lives and there’s no where to turn to for that. And when we see that they are doing something to better their situation, we really want to go above and beyond to help them and it takes money,” said Rice.

That money would go to feeding the hungry, providing shelter for the homeless and extending a warm welcome to anyone in need.

“She just helps so many people with treatment, with apartments, with furniture, with food,” said Miss Carly’s Place volunteer Anne Weiser.

“Just to meet the needs with the healthy meals we are trying to get in peoples bellies. It’s a lot of money,” said Rice.
Volunteers at Miss Carly’s Place say they serve 600 meals on any given day they’re open. And that’s not all, Rice says nearly 1,200 packed lunches are given away every week. It’s something they say they want to keep doing for years to come and the community helped to support that. The fundraiser included vendors, food trucks and free Narcan training.
“The community has stepped up in a real way,” said Rice.
“The support that I got from people in the community that I don’t even know. I mean, they’re so many people here today that know me from Carly’s page and are following my journey,” said Weiser.
