ROCKFORD (WREX) — A local organization hosted a fall clothing drive just in time as temperatures begin to drop.
Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful collected clothes and items at three locations in Rockford and Roscoe. The goal is to keep clothing out of the landfill and to give others the opportunity to reuse.
The organization is also partnering with Goodwill to help sell clothes back into our community. Organizers say it is important to reduce the amount of clothing thrown away and to help those in need.
“The landfill is limited in space, so we don’t want to fill it up. And Goodwill does some great things, they do sell some of it and the money they make does go back into a lot of community programs,” said Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful Vice President Charlote Leclercq.
In past years, the collection has kept 80 thousand pounds of clothing out of the landfill.
