Rockford woman sentenced to prison for drug induced homicide

ROCKFORD (WREX) — A Rockford woman is sentenced to prison on drug induced homicide charges after two people died of drug overdoses.

The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office says Karen Hernandez was sentenced on Wednesday. She was sentenced to 15 years in prison on each charge, and will serve those years concurrently. The state’s attorney’s office says she must serve 75 percent of those 15 years.

Back in March 2018, Rockford Police responded to an overdose call in which three people were transported to local hospitals. One woman, later identified as Justine Wentz, died. In another incident, a man identified as Brock Palchick was taken to a local hospital, where he died 3 days later as a result of a drug overdose.

After an investigation, Hernandez was charged and later indicted by a Winnebago County Grand Jury.
