ROCKFORD — Michael Leighton, one of the most decorated goaltenders in AHL history, announced his retirement Monday.
Leighton, 38, skated with Rockford for two seasons from 2014-16, compiling a 50-21-12 record with 10 shutouts over 88 regular-season appearances. He currently ranks third in all-time games played by a goaltender in Rockford’s AHL history behind only Carter Hutton (94 games) and Corey Crawford (147 games).
Leighton helped the IceHogs to the Calder Cup Playoffs in 2014-15. He also set the AHL’s all-time shutout record while with Rockford, posting his 46th career regular-season shutout during a 5-0 win vs. the Lake Erie Monsters on March 5, 2016 at the BMO Harris Bank Center.
