BELOIT, WI – Central Christian Church welcomed former MLB All-Star and World Series champion Darryl Strawberry to its house of worship on the final Sunday of September.
Strawberry won four World Series titles with the Mets and Yankees, and was an eight-time All-Star in his Major League Baseball career, but off the field, he was plagued by various addictions.
Now his post-baseball career is that of a born-again Christian – he is the founder of Strawberry Ministries and delivers hundreds of speaking engagements around the country every year. That included a stop in the Stateline region, as he delivered a series of sermons on Saturday and Sunday at CCC. He hopes his story and message resonates with those who hear it.
“Having the opportunity to see a man completely restored by God…that brings hope to people,” Strawberry said in a one-on-one interview with 13 Sports. “We’re living in a time where people are hurting. They don’t believe they can live a different life and they can. I’m a prime example that you can, where I come from, the pit to the pulpit.”
