Man arrested following shooting in downtown Rockford

UPDATE: ROCKFORD (WREX) — The man who was shot near downtown Rockford on Tuesday has died, according to the Rockford Police Department.

Police responded to the area of 6th Street and E. State Street Tuesday afternoon around 2:40 p.m.

Police say 28-year-old Jamie Pearson shot from his car into at blue car driving nearby. A 30-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were shot. The man died in that shooting, his name has not been released.

Police say the woman who was shot has been released from the hospital.

Jamie Pearson was arrested on Wednesday at a home in the 3500 block of Pheasant Run.

He is charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm.

Police say more charges are under review by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office.

According to the Illinois Department of Corrections, Pearson was on parole from a previous gun crime, robbery and aggravated battery. He served 13 months in prison before being released in March.


UPDATE: ROCKFORD (WREX) — A Rockford man is arrested on attempted first degree murder charges following a shooting in broad daylight Tuesday in downtown Rockford.

Jamie Pearson, 28, of Rockford was arrested Wednesday after Rockford Police conducted an investigation with its Violent Crimes Unit and Gangs Unit.

Detectives identified Pearson as a suspect and took him into custody without incident at a home on the 3500 block of Pheasant Run on Wednesday.

The shooting happened in the area of 6th St and E State St around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, according to Rockford Police.

Police say the initial investigation shows shots were fired between two vehicles traveling southbound on 6th St.

A man and woman were inside a vehicle that was hit by gun fire. The man suffered life-threatening injuries while the woman suffered minor injuries.

Pearson is being held in the Winnebago County Jail.
