Public hearing for casino is happening in 1 week

ROCKFORD (WREX) — In a week, the public is invited to attend an information listening session about three proposed locations for a casino coming to Rockford.

The hearing will be open tot he public on a first come basis. Doors open at the Coronado Theater at 5 p.m., with seats accommodating 2,400 people. There will be no reserved seating.

We now know the three locations the city will consider.

Applicants will make formal presentations of its respective casino proposal. Each applicant will be allotted up to 45 minutes to make its presentation.

The locations being considered are:

— 7801 E. State Street, which is the site of the former Clock Tower Hotel and Conference Center.

— 650 Race St., which is in the city’s downtown along the Rock River and near the Amerock Hotel project.

— 8055 Springbrook Road, which is also along the city’s I-90 corridor, near the new Javon Bea Hospital-Riverside.

Written comments may be submitted at any time before or after the public hearing and will be placed in the hearing records. Written comments can be submitted to:

The city expects the hearing to end at 10:30 p.m., but it could go longer.
