Rockford celebrates 4th annual Tamale Fest

ROCKFORD(WREX)—People from all over the Rockford area came together on Saturday for one common love, tamales.

Saturday was the the fourth annual Tamale Fest at Don Carter Lanes.

The event aims to celebrate Latino culture and benefit “MASA”, a Rockford nonprofit benefiting Latinos with entrepreneurial and cultural education.

Tamale fest features a best tamale contest, music, vendors, lucha libre wrestling and more.

Organizers say they hope the event brings everyone together in the name of peace.

“it’s not just Latinos supporting Latinos, but we have everybody from every ethnicity out here indulging in our food, indulging in our culture, showing support. And that’s what love, peace, and chicken grease is all about,” said Tamale Fest founder Manuel Salgado

The event ends at 10 p.m.
