ROCHELLE (WREX) — The city of Rochelle celebrates the grand opening for its new industry transportation center today.
The idea of expanding Rochelle is now a reality for some city leaders.
“If you think and dream hard enough you can make things happen and this is what happened we created all this infrastructure for new development,” said Rochelle’s Economic Development Director Jason Anderson.
With the opening of a new Transload Center and Railroad Bridge, hundreds of industries can use Rochelle as a cost effective destination.
“In many areas whether it is commercial, industrial or the downtown area you know we’ve got several things in our area that make our community a destination,” said Rochelle’s Mayor John Bearrows.
Leaders have a few goals in mind including bring thousands of jobs to the area wile growing the economy.
“Having that cross road is really well positioned for manufactures who want to come here and create a product and want to get it around the world actually,” said Rebecca Mason the executive director of the infrastructure council for the Illinois Chamber of Commerce.
More than 50 million dollars has poured into Rochelle over the last decade. Something the director of economic development says is the reason tax base revenue doubled.
“And that is the key to the success of most economic development and that is to have everything ready,” said Anderson.
“When a company calls to come into our city we want to be prepared for them, and if somebody is looking of relocating, we’re ready in Rochelle,” said Bearrows.
And leaders say the effort is all worth it to make the city an ideal location for development.
“We’ve just got all of the infrastructure, sewer, water, rail, highways, north, south, east, west. We’re ready,” said Bearrows.
The developments to Rochelle are just part of how the cit is staying true to its nickname, The Hub City.
