ROCKFORD (WREX) – You will see some new officers working for the Rockford Police Department.

12 people were sworn in as officers at a ceremony on Friday at the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center. Ofc. Christopher Jones, meanwhile, was promoted to investigator. The department also handed out different awards. 10 Letters of Commendation, four Medals of Valor and one Medal of Life Saving were also presented.

“Obviously having more officers on the street makes for a safer environment for us, but hiring the right officers is what’s really critical,” said Chief Dan O’Shea of the Rockford Police Department. “And our police and fire commission picks the best of the best, and that’s who we hire and that’s where we get success.”

According to Chief O’Shea, the department is nearly at full-strength after swearing in its new officers.
