Six Flags to kick off Fright Fest this weekend

ROCKFORD (WREX) — With the fall season quickly approaching, Six Flags Great America is kicking off it’s annual Fright Fest this weekend.

This will be the 29th season of Fright Fest, which runs for eight straight weekends and select weekdays.

Here’s some of the highlights of this year’s festival:

REST IN TERROR

The 30-hour coffin challenge returns this year. Six people will brave the monsters that lurk during Fright Fest, all while remaining inside a coffin for 30 hours. The challenge begins at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 and ending at 7 p.m. Oct. 6. Participants will have a chance to win $600.

A MARATHON OF COASTERS

For the sixth straight year, Six Flags is teaming up with Special Olympics of Illinois to do the Coaster Challenge. Challengers must register online and raise funds in order to get early access to the park and ride the distance of a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon or Marathon on Six Flags Great America’s world-class coasters. The event takes place on September 21, 2019.

Fright Fest kicks off Saturday, Sept. 14 and runs through Nov. 3.
