Report: Crime down in the City of Rockford

ROCKFORD (WREX) — A new report says crime is down in Rockford.

The city released the numbers on their Facebook page on Thursday. The numbers are year to date comparisons from January-August in 2018 and 2019.

Here is what the report showed:

VIOLENT CRIME: Down 17 percent from 2018 to 2019.

  • 2018: 1,451
  • 2019: 1,211

ROBBERY: Down 21 percent from 2018 to 2019.

  • 2018: 226
  • 2019: 178

PROPERTY CRIME: Down 13 percent from 2018 to 2019.

  • 2018: 3,843
  • 2019: 3,336

AUTO THEFTS: Down 8 percent from 2018 to 2019.

  • 2018: 302
  • 2019: 277

SHOTS FIRED: Down 19 percent from 2018 to 2019.

  • 2018: 338
  • 2019: 273

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT: Down 16 percent from 2018 to 2019.

  • 2018: 1,054
  • 2019: 887

The report also shows 53 percent of aggravated assaults this year have been domestic related.
