Ogle County Board will elect chairman’s replacement later this month

OGLE COUNTY (WREX) — Ogle County Board members will elect a member of the board to serve as chairman later this month following the death of Chairman Kim Gouker, according to the Ogle County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Gouker passed away suddenly on Tuesday.

He was elected to the Ogle County Board in 1996 and elected chairman in 2012. He’s overseen the construction of the Ogle County Judicial Center, the renovation of the Ogle County Courthouse and the current Ogle County Jail project.

By statute, if a vacancy occurs in the chairman’s office, remaining members of the board will elect a member of the board to serve for the remainder of the term.

Historically, the board has elected a vice chairman to preside in the absence of the chairman. Current Vice Chairman John Finfrock is attending to county business and shouldering the duties of chairman since learning of Chairman Gouker’s death, the state’s attorney’s office says.

The election of a chairman will happen at the Sept. 17th meeting of the Ogle County Board.

“Chairman Gouker will be missed, not only for his contributions to local government, but also his wit and personality,” State’s Attorney Eric Morrow said in a statement.
