Rockford University teaching students about community engagement

ROCKFORD (WREX) — Students at Rockford University spent the day learning how to get involved in the community.

Groups like the Winnebago County Forest Preserve and the Discovery Center were on hand to show students ways they could get involved, while also learning some valuable skills along the way.

Organizers believe getting in touch with the community is vital to a college education.

“Students need to know how to reach out in the community, and they’re getting a college education, so coming and seeing these community partners is just valuable,” said Ashni Gandhi, AmeriCorps VISTA at Rockford.

Rockford University plans to host another community engagement fair in the spring.
