ROCKFORD (WREX) — Around 700 Corvettes rolled into the Petro Rochelle this morning on their way to the National Corvette Museum and assembly plant.
The 2019 Corvette Caravan is underway and the North Central Region passed through Rochelle on Tuesday Morning.
This year, the National Corvette Museum is celebrating its 25th anniversary and around 7,000 Corvettes are expected to attend celebration at the end of their route in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Riders say they look forward to mingling with other enthusiasts while taking tours of both the museum and assembly plant presented by Corvette. They say the caravan is about much more than the cars, but the lifestyle that comes with them.
“The best North American sports car, which is the Corvette,” said Douglas Oakley, participant from British Columbia,Canada. “I think that’s what brought us all together. Then we become a bunch of big friends and family and we all travel together, we have similar interests. It just becomes a way of life, it’s a lifestyle really.”
Participants in the North Central Region come from the states of Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, UP Michigan, Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota and Central Canada.
