ROCKFORD (WREX) – You can help bring another mural to Rockford.

SecondFirst Church launched a $30,000 Kickstarter fundraiser for a Rockford community mural project. The church wants to have a 1,000-square-foot mural painted on the outside wall of the church gymnasium. People can help out in the project by not only donating money, but by also giving feedback at community design workshops and adding a solid coat of paint to the mural. Muralist Tia Richardson will help paint the mural.

“We just want this wall to spark peace and hope and love and joy right here in this very part of Rockford,” said Rev. Rebecca White Newgren, who is the Senior Pastor at SecondFirst Church.

According to the project’s Kickstarter page, more than 300 people are expected to be involved in different phases of creation over a period of 6-8 weeks. If the project is backed successfully, it can start as early as October.

The project will only be funded if it reaches its fundraising goal by Saturday, Oct. 5 at 11:59 p.m. For more information on the project, click here.
