STILLMAN VALLEY – The Cardinals broke a four-year playoff drought last year, and eye a deeper run in 2019.
Stillman Valley defeated Dixon in the first round of the playoffs before bowing out to eventual 4-A state champion IC Catholic in the second round a year ago. Now the Cardinals head into the 22nd year under head coach Mike Lalor.
Last year’s senior class gave those behind them valuable tools for success as a new roster takes shape in Stillman Valley. Those players are eager to build off last year’s success.
“Our linemen are working really hard and they’re doing a really good job. Our running backs have been busting their tails. It’s looking really good this year,” says senior running back Braeden Kunce.
“The team last year really gave us a base to build on and gave us something to go with. They gave us some experience in the playoffs,” says senior running back Caleb Fleming.
“I think with leadership, one area where you really find out is when things get rough. Right now everybody’s undefeated if you will,” says Coach Lalor. “Once you get into the season and drop a game here or there, that’s when you find out if this is talk or if you’re really going to back it up.”
Stillman Valley kicks off the season at home against Dixon in a rematch of last year’s first round playoff matchup.
