BELVIDERE – Bucs football is taking small but positive steps under head coach Darin Wecker as it heads into a new season.
After a 1-8 season in 2017, Belvidere tacked on another win in 2018 as they continue their rebuilding process. They showed signs of improvement in the second half of the season a year ago, and the main message in practice heading into Week 1 of 2019 is togetherness. This is a team that enjoys the grind of preparing for a new year.
“I’ve never been on a team this close together. All of us are on board with our goal. We have a family bond out here which is something we haven’t had in a few years,” says senior lineman Jaxson Forman.
“We’re all best friends on this field. It’s a brotherhood here. We’re all hitting and flying around, everyone is encouraging each other. One bad apple ruins the bunch. I can tell you honestly there are no bad apples here, we’re all having a great time together and playing Buc football,” says senior linebacker Dillon Reidinger.
“The kids coming together and loving each other is a big thing. We talk about Buc pride and coming together and getting this community behind us,” says head coach Darin Wecker. “We know they are, and we need to show them we’re ready to play Buc football. That sense of pride is definitely different.”
Belvidere starts the season at home against Freeport a week from Friday.
