ROCKFORD (WREX) — Harlem’s Brighton Young is off to a strong start in the high school golf season, as she took home the individual championship at the Rockford Country Club Invitational. The RCC Invite is traditionally one of the big early-season golf tournaments as the girls get ready for the conference season.
Young fired a 78, the only golfer to break 80 on the challenging course. Her teammate Reese Stovall also scored a top ten finish with an 89.
Sisters Katelyn and Kayla Sayyalinh tied for 2nd, as they both shot 80. They helped the Rockford Public Schools Co-op take 3rd place overall.
Rockford Lutheran’s Brooke Bunjes got the putter working late in her round, propelling her to a round of 84, tied for 4th individually. Her teammate Finley Rock finished one shot behind her with an 85.
