Rockford Mayor kicks off Rockford Day with proclamation

ROCKFORD (WREX) – Aug. 15 is a special day in Rockford, symbolizing Rockford day.

The annual day celebrates the 815 and was picked because it’s the eight month and the 15th day. Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara officially kicked off the day with a proclamation.

“Now therefore, I Thomas P. McNamara, of the city of Rockford do hereby proclaim with drivers by that August 15 be Rockford Day,” said McNamara.

Rockford Day officially kicked off on Thursday at Culture Shock. The record store hosted music and had plenty of coffee for people to celebrate the day. City leaders say Thursday was a day to celebrate the good of Rockford.

“Rockford sometimes gets a bad rap but we have so many exciting things going on in our city,” said City of Rockford Neighborhood Specialist Barb Chidley. “There have been so many wonderful new developments and incredible people here working through the city and throughout the city it is important for us to celebrate what is truly wonderful about Rockford.”

According to the City of Rockford, more than 100 businesses and organizations took part in Rockford Day.
