ROCKFORD (WREX) — A group who is pushing to partner with the City of Rockford to bring a casino to the area has opened up an informational office in downtown Rockford.

The casino group had a grand opening of the downtown office on Thursday, 815 Day. Rick Nielsen, lead guitarist of Cheap Trick, was at the opening.

Last month, Hard Rock International announced its intention to submit a proposal to the city of Rockford to develop and operate a Hard Rock Casino to the land next to I-90, the site of the former Clock Tower Resort.

The Hard Rock Casino group is one of two public groups pushing for a casino in the area.

The other group, the Rock River West group, announced their proposal for the casino would be in downtown Rockford.
