OREGON (WREX) – Oregon High School has a new program to make freshmen students feel more at home.

It’s called, “Freshmen Merge Day,” which was created by Oregon High School junior Austin Ebert. Ebert says he started the program to help incoming freshmen feel less nervous about starting high school. As part of the program, freshmen completed team-building activities with upperclassmen.

“Speak up and not be afraid to say your own thing and be you,” said Ebert.

The program was held at Northern Illinois University’s Lorado Taft Field Campus. The first day of school at OHS is on Thursday.
