Drone helps Janesville police track down suspect

JANESVILLE (WKOW) — Janesville police used a drone Sunday night to help capture a man suspected of damaging property.

Officers went to 1008 Bouchard Avenue for a disorderly conduct complaint.

They learned a man had damaged about 13 tires on a property, possibly using a knife.

A neighbor saw a man wearing clothes that matched the description of the suspect and confronted him. But the man ran away.

Police established a perimeter in the area and used a drone in the search.

The officer operating the drone was able to guide other officers to the suspect’s location along a creek.

Police took Jerry Van Cannon , 53, of Janesville into custody. He’s charged with disorderly conduct, criminal damage to property and bail jumping.

He was being held at the Rock County Jail.
