DEKALB – The Northern Illinois football team has three weeks left of training camp and practices to get ready for their Week 1 matchup with Illinois State on August 31 at Huskie Stadium in DeKalb.
The Redbirds come to town with Rockford native James Robinson eyeing a monster season out of the backfield. The Huskies are not taking him or his ISU teammates lightly.
“I wish I was around when he was coming out of high school, I would’ve taken a hard look at him,” says NIU’s rookie head coach Thomas Hammock. “He’s a good player. He’s very, very physical, a downhill runner. They like to run right at you. Our defensive line better be ready – short yardage, goal line, third and short, those situations come August 31, we need to be locked and loaded.”
The in-state season opener kicks off at 6:00 pm in DeKalb.
