Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois looks for community’s help to receive grant

ROCKFORD (WREX) – Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois needs your help to get money to educate local girls about an issue plaguing our community.

The organization is looking for votes in order to get a $25,000 grant from State Farm. The group says the money would be used to help educate girls about human trafficking and fight it in the community.

“It does take funding to roll out any kind of worthwhile program,” said Vicki Jacobson, who is the Grants Manager for Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois. “And so that’s why we are seeking grant funding.”

Some of the things money would go towards include providing a consultant to help develop the human trafficking part of programming and train facilitators.

“This is a really critical issue for girls,” said Jacobson. “And again, as Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois, we are the only agency ready to assist with this and to create some kind of prevention so that girls aren’t taken in.”

Voting begins on Wednesday, Aug. 14 and continues until Aug. 23. To find out more information about the grant and to vote, click here.
