ROCKFORD – Aquin graduate Georgia James joined the 13 Sports Authority for its Catching Up at City Market series to reflect on her freshman season college soccer at Cornell College in Iowa.

James was named the Female Freshman of the Year across all sports at Cornell after a strong debut on defense for the women’s soccer team. James had a decorated run with the Aquin girls basketball team, then switched to play soccer full-time, bringing years of club experience to her next team.

“I play club all year round. I just played on a boys club team,” James said, adding that it was instrumental to her development.

“You have to be strong, and you have to be fit. It prepares you for more of what the athletes will be like in college, so I loved it,” James said.

She also plays girls club soccer, and with the Rockford Raptors. Now she gears up for a sophomore season with great expectations.

“Knowing other people saw something in me, that I can live up to, it pushes me. I know I have a bigger name to live up to, my coaches expect a lot more, my team expects a lot, so I think it’ll help motivate me.”
