ROCKFORD (WREX) — Rockford Police are investigating two burglaries that happened on the same block while the residents were home.
The first happened around 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, June 23. Rockford Police responded to the 1700 block of Melrose Street. When they arrived, officers learned the crime happened after midnight while two adults and two children were sleeping. Police say a suspect allegedly entered the house through a window and left with money and credit cards. Nobody was hurt.
At 10 a.m. Monday, a similar incident occurred. This time, officers responded to the 1700 block of Melrose Street. Police say the crime happened around 3:15 a.m. while two adult victims were sleeping. Similarly, the suspect entered the home through a window and left with money and a credit card. Nobody was hurt.
Police are investigating the possibility that these crimes were related.
Police are now urging residents to lock their homes. Residents are also encouraged to add lighting, secure ground floor windows, make sure sliding doors are secure, and consider adding a home security system.
Police say cars are another target of burglars and should be parked under a light if possible and locked up. Items of value should be removed, and you should even take change out of the cup holders.
