DEKALB – Lena-Winslow graduate Rahveon Valentine is gearing up for what he hopes is a productive first season in uniform for the Northern Illinois University football team.

Valentine redshirted as a freshman last year, and now heads into Year 1 of the Thomas Hammock era at NIU as part of a deep backfield for the former Huskies tailback and NFL running backs coach. Valentine says he’s developed himself physically and mentally in his redshirt year to set himself up for the 2019 season.

“I definitely got faster, quicker with my feet,” Valentine says. “My IQ of football, learning the different blocking and defensive schemes. It’ll help me run through the hole.”

Valentine and NIU kick off the season on Saturday, August 31 at home against Illinois State. James Robinson and the Redbirds are set for a 6:00pm kickoff on DeKalb that night.
