ROCKFORD (WREX) – Rockford Police are taking time to teach kids some skills on the hardwood.

Monday was the first day of a basketball camp at the district two police station. The camp is for kids 11 to 15 years old who live at Rockford Housing Authority properties. Assistant Deputy Chief Mike Dalke is one of the people who is coaching the camp and said it accomplishes more than just showing kids a fun time.

“By running programs like this, I think it helps kind of reduce that gap or create that bridge to other people that may not trust the police,” said Dalke.

The camp continues until Friday from 10 a.m. to noon each day.
