Gas prices fall in Rockford; trend expected to continue in the coming months

ROCKFORD (WREX) — The gas prices in Rockford have fallen once again.

According to GasBuddy, prices fell about five cents in the past week, bringing the average down to $2.75 per gallon.

The fall in prices brings gas down eight cents from the beginning of last month, which is when the state’s new gas tax went into effect.

The trend in Rockford is one seen across the country, as prices fell a little more than two cents this past week.

It’s a trend drivers might not see in the immediate future, but should expect to see in the coming months.

“There’s a growing threat that gas prices may plunge this fall- perhaps as much as 50 cents per gallon by Thanksgiving- as headwinds have killed off any demand growth and gasoline demand plummets after summer,” said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

DeHaan says the trade spat between the U.S. and China should stifle prices in the immediate future.
