ROCKFORD – Ella Greenberg was the highest local finisher in the Illinois State Junior Girls Amateur Championship at Aldeen after shooting a final round 77, but it wasn’t enough to stay within striking distance of a win. Shannyn Vogler of Sherrard emerged victorious by one stroke, finishing -1 for the tournament to hold off a charging Stephanie Su of South Barrington. Greenberg, an incoming freshman at Boylan, left some shots on the table in her short game that could have allowed her to contend for the title. She finished tied for 4th at +7 overall.
DeKalb graduate Emma Carpenter was the next highest finisher from the area, finishing tied for 13th after shooting consecutive rounds of 79 to finish with a +14 overall score.
Guilford’s Katelyn Sayyalinh finished tied for 16th with a +16 score for her two rounds, while Freeport grad Maxine Nesemeier shot +18 to finish in 22nd place.
Rockford native Bella Grace Pettersen, a 13-year-old, finished tied for 25th after shooting +20 for two rounds. Incoming Guilford freshman Kayla Sayyalinh finished 32nd, while Rochelle junior Megan Thiravong took 36th place. Rockford Lutheran’s Brooke Bunjes finished tied for 50th, while the youngest golfer in the field, Eva Greenberg, finished 53rd overall.
