ROCKFORD (WREX) — The Winnebago County Jail has a new piece of technology that no other jail in Illinois outside of Cook County owns.
The sheriff’s office now has a whole body x-ray scanner that will be used in the jail’s booking area.
The scanner will detect contraband like phones, weapons and illegal drugs, preventing those from entering the building, according to the sheriff’s office.
It can detect contraband on the inside and outside of the body.
“We want to make sure that we keep our inmates safe, we keep our corrections officers safe,” Sheriff Gary Caruana said.
