Winnebago County K9 unit helps track down missing man

WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WREX) — A Machesney Park man who went missing Wednesday night was found with the help of the Winnebago County K9’s.

The sheriff’s say they responded to the 10400 block of Banyan Dr. in Machensey Park for reports of a missing man around 12:00 p.m. Thursday.

Authorities say a 69-year-old man with medical issues had wandered away from his home and was last seen Wednesday night around 8:30 p.m.

The sheriff’s office says the K9 unit’s bloodhounds collected the man’s scent from his home and started on the trail.

Two bloodhounds brought the search team to an area near Old Ralston Rd. and West Service Drive of North Second St.

The missing man was located laying in a bean field in the area near a tree line. The man was taken to the hospital for treatment.
