WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WREX) — In a surprise move Thursday night, Winnebago County administrator Carla Paschal announced she would be staying with the county through Aug. 30.
Paschal submitted her resignation on June 28, which was scheduled to go into effect Aug. 2. Now, that date will only mark the end of her full-time employment with the county.
In a letter to the county board, Paschal says she will continue to work each Friday through Aug. 30. Her new schedule will begin on the week of Aug. 5.
“I plan to assist the County in transitioning work in process to the interim County Administrator appointed by the County Board,” the letter said.
However, at this time, the county board does not have the power to appoint an interim administrator. Despite an ordinance change that was approved by the board stripping Chairman Frank Haney of the power to appoint the county administrator, Haney has asked the board to reconsider its vote. The board cannot reconsider that vote until the Aug. 7 county board meeting unless a special meeting is called. Until then, Haney maintains the appointment power.
No name has officially been recommended for the interim position by Haney or the county board to this point.
