The Literacy Council among organizations to receive adult literacy grant

ROCKFORD (WREX) – A group in Rockford is among many in Illinois receiving money to help learners.

The Literacy Council got a grant of $72,877. The money will go toward its Adult Volunteer Tutor Program. Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White awarded more than $5.6 million in adult literacy grants. White says he is providing funding to 113 literacy projects across the state. The money is used to help learners develop and enhance their reading, math, writing and English language skills.

Another local group that got a grant is Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon. The school received $49,529 for Project VITAL.
