ROCKFORD (WREX) – After less than two years in business, Capital House in downtown Rockford has closed for good.

The owner of the restaurant, Ted Brothers, confirmed the closure to 13 WREX on Monday. Brothers did not give a reason for why it closed.

Capital House opened in February 2018, taking the former space of Kryptonite Bar, which closed in 2016. At the time Capital House branded itself as an upscale steak and seafood restaurant as well as a coffee house and sushi bar. The sushi never got off the ground and it scaled back on the coffee last year.

Capital House’s owner also planned on opening an urban grocery store across the street in the Burnham Lofts building. That project never came to fruition.
