Crime, fire calls among statistics that have dropped in Rockford


ROCKFORD (WREX) – Crime in Rockford is dropping. And calls for help to the Rockford Fire Department are also down.

That’s according to the City of Rockford, which released numbers today from police and fire. For the Rockford Police Department, in the first half of 2019, compared to the same time last year:

  • Violent crimes are down 19 percent.
  • Robberies are down 25 percent.
  • Shots fired are down 20 percent.
  • Thefts are down 20 percent.
  • Property crimes are down 16 percent.
  • Aggravated Assaults are down 17 percent.

The Rockford Fire Department is seeing success too. The city reports:

  • Fire calls are down 19 percent.
  • EMS & Search & Rescues are down three percent.
  • Total calls are down two percent.

One area the department wants to improve on is the speed of answering 911 calls. It answered 83 percent of calls in less than 10 seconds. The goal is 90 percent.
