LOVES PARK – Dozens of dogs couldn’t rally the Rockford Rivets to a comeback victory, as the home team fell, 3-1, to the Traverse City Pit Spitters Sunday afternoon on Bark in the Park Day.

All of the game’s runs were scored in the first inning. Jordan Nelson came on in relief and pitched 8 shutout innings, allowing just 3 hits with 7 strikeouts for the Rivets.

Rockford wore special jerseys with several pictures of dogs on them, and those were auctioned off to raise money to buy new vests for the Belvidere Police Dept. K-9 team. There were other games and booths for the dogs around the ballpark as well.

The Rivets remain home to start the week with a two-game series against Kalamazoo. Monday’s game is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with Tuesday’s game slated for 11:05 a.m.
